At Ingeus, we pride ourselves on finding new ways to support our clients and we know that the best way to engage with people is to understand what inspires and motivates them.
One recent example of this is the work we have been doing with clients in the North East through our ‘TKO’ initiative. TKO (Training, Knowledge and Opportunities) uses boxing as a means of engaging with clients and developing their leadership, teamwork and communication skills whilst helping to increase their self-confidence.
Former world champion boxer Glenn McCrory who has been a Sky Sports presenter for the last 24 years, worked with us closely to design and deliver the programme. He said: “I am really excited to see Ingeus use boxing as a tool to help long-term unemployed people increase their skills, confidence and self-esteem to obtain employment.”
Also endorsed by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBB of C), the project was covered in the Newcastle Chronicle (click here to read the article) and this week was featured on Sky Sports’ Ringside show (click here to watch the clip online).
During the week of activity, clients received health and lifestyle advice, including a ‘Cooking on a Budget’ lesson from the team at Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill restaurant at Hotel Indigo. They have also learned about setting employment goals and preparing for interviews, attended an information session about business management from Lonsdale’s Managing Director, Ian Campbell, and visited a local call centre to see how the communication and employability skills they have learned can be applied in a busy workplace.
General Secretary, Robert Smith from the British Boxing Board of Control added, “The BBB of C is pleased to endorse this programme, which promotes boxing as a positive tool to help long-term unemployed people to move into lasting work. The initiative not only gives participants an introduction to the world of coaching, it also provides valuable skills like leadership, motivation, and team work, that they can use in interviews and once they find work.”
“I am delighted that Sky Sports, the BBB of C, Lonsdale and the team and Marco Pierre White at Hotel Indigo have all shown such support,” added Richie Ellison, “TKO is something which we hope to replicate in other parts of the country. This is just one part of our clients’ journey back into work but we are confident that it will contribute to their future long term job success.”
