When Maria was supported into a much-wished-for admin role by Ingeus back in 2012 she hoped she would never be unemployed again. Two years later and despite the closure of the training company she worked for, she hasn’t been!
Maria was a young single mum and left school with no qualifications. After spells working in various part-time and temporary jobs she determinedly set out to gain qualifications in administration but despite mastering touch typing, audio typing and a BTEC in Business Administration, her lack of relevant experience was a hurdle when applying for jobs.
“I was out of work for over a year before first going to Ingeus so I know how difficult it can be to stay motivated,” said Maria. “Ingeus helped me find my dream job as a receptionist and administrator. I loved it and worked there for a year before the company closed. I was terrified of being out of work again but tried to make the best of it, helping with the closure of our branch and taking on lots of extra responsibility as other colleagues left.”
Given three months notice of her redundancy, Maria immediately got back in touch with Ingeus and the hunt for a new role began. When she saw a vacancy for a business service assistant at an energy consultancy, Maria knew she had the skills and all-important experience to apply. She started work again three days after leaving her old job.
“I’d really struggled to find admin work in the past because I didn’t have any experience but this time was different,” continues Maria. “Ingeus helped me break down that barrier and I had the confidence to apply for my current position and get it!”
Maria has been working at the energy consultancy for over a year now and handles admin and accounts duties for a team of colleagues.
Maria concludes: “Life moves on and so did I. No job is guaranteed for life, but Ingeus helped me gain the experience I needed to go it alone, hopefully moving onwards and upwards with my career.”
