Helping young volunteers build skills and confidence for the future

Ingeus is delivering the Readiness to Work Programme, a new initiative helping young people gain the skills, confidence and experience they need to take their next steps into work and build brighter futures.

Commissioned by British Cycling (formerly the British Cycling Federation) and Grand Départ GB 2027, the programme will support young people volunteering as part of Grand Départ 2027. Around 300 young volunteers aged 18 to 25 across England, Scotland and Wales are expected to benefit from the programme.

Great Britain will host the Grand Départ for the fourth time in 2027, with the race starting in Scotland for the first time and travelling through routes across England and Wales.

Following volunteer recruitment and onboarding for the Grand Départ GB, activities will begin in February and finish in August 2027.

For many young people, volunteering can be the first step towards new opportunities. The Readiness to Work Programme has been designed to make that experience even more valuable by helping participants develop practical workplace skills, grow their confidence and explore future career options.

Participants will take part in interactive online workshops covering CV writing, interview skills, communication, personal branding, resilience, workplace wellbeing and financial education. They will also receive personalised mentoring from experienced professionals, helping them build their confidence and focus on their goals for the future.

Simon Smithson, Director of Youth Services, said:

"We are delighted to be delivering the Readiness to Work Programme in partnership with the British Cycling Federation and Grand Départ GB 2027. This initiative will help young volunteers gain valuable skills, confidence and experience that can support them in their future careers. By combining employability training with personalised mentoring, we want to ensure participants leave the programme feeling empowered and better prepared to achieve their aspirations."

By combining the excitement of volunteering with tailored employability support, the Readiness to Work Programme will help young people gain skills for life while contributing to a major national event.
