Operating in the shifting landscape of the UK’s benefits system means change is a constant for Matt and the rest of the Ingeus Health Assessment Advisory Service team.
Change, however, doesn’t just happen, says Matt, and as a recent graduate of the Ingeus Continuous Improvement Academy (CIA), he has learned new skills to perform his role of Process Engineer.
The Academy equips Ingeus colleagues to look for ways to improve how the business operates and enhance their personal development, creating change agents across the company.
Matt says: “My job entails designing our standard operating procedures governing how we work with subject matter experts. I’m responsible for maintaining these procedures, ensuring any changes to the operation or business model is reflected in what we do.”
He emerged from his CIA course with a Lean Six Sigma process improvement Yellow Belt and says: “I saw the course as an opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills. I learned a lot but my key takeaway was how much planning and preparation must go into making positive change.”
Matt plans to use the knowledge he has gained to change the team’s audio recording process, which he feels can sometimes be disjointed. He is looking at ways to streamline the way participant consents are recorded so that both telephone and face-to-face assessments operate the same system.
It will mean working with the Department for Work and Pensions as it will also require changes in their processes.
The benefits to the business arising from his new skills, he says, will be an enhanced ability to identify opportunities for change and improvements and how to implement them.
He plans to work towards the next level – Green Belt – of the Lean Six Sigma accreditation, saying: “Learning more about change will help me further my career at Ingeus and I’m looking forward to using the skills and knowledge I’ve gained.
“I was given all the course materials and timetable well in advance of the Yellow Belt starting, allowing me plenty of opportunity to plan time.
“I’d definitely recommend the Academy for any colleagues looking to grow their career with Ingeus.”
