For exercise and fitness lover Delaram, leaving her job as a personal trainer in Iran to relocate to the UK in 2024 was more than just a physical wrench. At a loss of how to start her work life afresh, she joined the Restart Scheme for inspiration. It opened more doors than she could have imagined – including one straight into the reception of a luxury London hotel.
Delaram was one of the first Ingeus participants to benefit from a newly formed partnership with Saira Hospitality. They support jobseekers across the world to put their hospitality-minded personalities to good use working in local hotels. Their bespoke Ingeus programme in London works with unemployed people on the Restart Scheme, like Delaram. Following an immersion day at a partner hotel, carefully selected participants undertake personal development sessions and on the job training in readiness for a guaranteed interview.
Seeing that Delaram had an Iranian Masters of Business Administration, and a background in marketing as well as her fitness training experience, her Restart Advisor Mohammed realised she’d have the right aptitude and attitude to work in a prestigious hotel setting.
At first, Delaram was less certain:
“I felt emotionally low and just didn’t know how to start again,” says Delaram, who is 35 and now lives in Islington. “From my first conversion with Mohammed though, I knew I had support. He looked at my skills, recommended me for the Saira programme and generally picked me back up. I really appreciate him getting me back on track.
“After the programme, I had some interview knockbacks but Mohammed and Saira were there for me again. I was interviewed for a reception role at another Saira partner hotel and was successful.”
Delaram joined a luxury four-star hotel, based at Tower Bridge.
“I love learning new things and there are lots of opportunities to grow here,” adds Delaram. “It’s a busy hotel with lots of events. I’m undertaking online courses offered by the hotel and am ambitious to go further.”
After upset and upheaval, Delaram’s now upbeat and back on track: “Thank you to the Restart Scheme and Saira. They’re a good combination to help people find work – it’s the best support I could have been given.”
