‘Daddy built that’… Double joy as new dad Kyron starts work

Kyron is hardworking, and eager to learn but with little to reflect that on his CV, a chance to prove himself to employers proved frustratingly elusive. Ever more determined in his job search as he prepared to become a father for the first time, a referral to Greater Manchester’s Restart Scheme in early 2026 delivered his long-wished-for opportunity. As his volunteering placement progressed into a paid role – coinciding with the arrival of his baby daughter – Kyron says he’s now got everything he ever wanted after a long period of anxiety and self-doubt. 

“I’d pick up work wherever I could but never anything lasting,” says Kyron, who is 31 . “It was frustrating. I wanted to work and had a baby on the way. I just needed a chance.” 

Working with his Restart Advisor, Margaret, Kyron completed a series of employability workshops at Ingeus and was provided with an up- to- date mobile phone to aid his job search. An introduction to Longworth Building Services by Employer Account Manager, Daniel, followed, where Kyron volunteered as a site operative for two weeks in April 2026. 

Longworth’s Project Manager Alex Sousa recalls it well: “Kyron had the right attitude from the very first moment. It was clear he was eager to work, listen and learn – even as a volunteer. His attention to detail and communication with the rest of the team was excellent. We were delighted to offer him a paid contract – he earnt it; it’s all down to him.” 

As Kyron delightedly prepared to start paid work, his new baby had other ideas, as Kyron explains: “I couldn’t believe I’d got a job, I was so happy. Two days later, my partner gave birth early. We all spent 10 days at the hospital but thankfully all was fine. Longworth kept the vacancy open for me, and I was excited to return.” 

Kryon is now a contracted site operative, supporting the build of a new market hall façade, part of a high-profile development. He assists in fetching and moving materials, clearing ground, and organising the stores. Longworth, a façade and building envelope specialist, are commissioned by main contractor, Galliford Try. The= development will eventually include the market hall and food court, bars, restaurants, 400 homes, and a hotel.  

“I love waking up in the morning knowing I have work ahead,” adds Kyron. “I like to learn new things and there’s so much scope working on this big project. I enjoy my days, then come home to my family. I’ve got everything I ever wanted.” 

Kyron’s contract has since been extended and his new child has been in to see where it all began: “I took the baby in to meet Maragaret and the Ingeus team,” concludes Kyron. “I so appreciate all the help they gave me. Margaret always tried for me, she believed in me, and then Longworth’s partnership with Ingeus gave me a chance.  

“Thanks to them, hopefully I’ll be able to walk past in the future and say: ‘daddy built that’.
