Facing a personal crisis… Ingeus came to the rescue for Megan

28 Feb 2021
Ever experienced a fire, flooding or theft? Megan Blackburn was the person who answered the call in her previous role working as a claims assessor for an insurance company.

Unfortunately, Megan, 28 and from Preston, lost her job last July as a result of the pandemic and subsequent economic downturn. “I felt I was having a personal crisis,” said Megan. “I kept applying for vacancies, but I was getting nowhere and my self-confidence started to disappear.”

Since Megan had been out-of-work for more than 13 weeks, her Work Coach Luke Nuttall, at Preston Jobcentre Plus, suggested that she sign up for the WHP JETS programme to provide some much-needed employment support.

Ingeus, working in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), is delivering the Work and Health Programme (WHP) expansion for Job Entry Targeted Support (JETS).

Ingeus Employment Coach, Emma Baluch worked with Megan to identify her barriers to work and recommended that she participate in workshops to boost her confidence and improve her interview skills.

Megan was encouraged to apply for a telephone-based customer service role, working from home, as she has extensive experience of dealing with the public. She was due to start work in January, but disaster struck as her laptop ‘gave up the ghost’ and refused to operate. Who was she going to call to bust her problem down to size?

“I rang Ingeus and explained the problem,” commented Megan. “They came to the rescue and purchased a replacement laptop and headset to enable me to begin my new job. Ingeus was a life saver.”

The JETS programme is co-financed by the European Social Fund and provides fast paced continuous support to participants negatively affected by COVID-19 labour market changes. Ingeus supports the delivery of JETS in the North West, Greater London, Greater Manchester, the North East, and Central areas.
