New job is a real tonic for Amie

Getting back to work can be tricky after a lengthy hiatus – and finding a flexible job can be doubly challenging. Amie spent 11 years at home, raising her four children. Always happy to help, she volunteered at a primary school and enjoyed building relationships with the parents, children, and colleagues. However, she struggled to find a paid job that would give her the flexibility she needed as a busy mum.

Amie, 45, of Herne Hill, London, was referred to the Restart Scheme by her work coach at Kennington Jobcentre Plus. The scheme, delivered by Ingeus on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions, offers tailored, one-to-one support to help people find sustainable employment.

Amie had limited work experience having previously worked for a food service company before having children. Her Restart Advisor, Charley referred Amie to an IT course to improve her computer literacy. Amie was also given practical advice about her childcare costs and benefit entitlements.

During an Ingeus workshop, Amie was informed of a role at The Body Shop and was eager to apply. Ingeus partners with The Body Shop to deliver its Open Hiring recruitment model in the UK. Open Hiring is a way of helping people into entry-level positions without the need for laborious interview processes or background checks. Those who are eligible to work are given jobs on a first come, first served basis. There is no formal interview, just three simple qualifying questions.

Amie was put forward for the role of customer consultant and received training at the Bond Street and Brixton branches of The Body Shop. Ingeus supported her in buying her uniform and she is now working at the retailer’s new Battersea Power Station store. Amie couldn’t be happier to have found a job she loves, with the flexibility she needs, after just six months on the Restart Scheme.

“I love getting out of the house and being able to go to work, I feel really happy,” says Amie. “I love working at The Body Shop, I have met so many different people and I’ve learnt a lot in such a short space of time.”

Amie continues to receive in-work support calls from Ingeus. She adds: “The Restart Scheme helped me to get back to work. They did a fantastic job. After 11 years, I’m back on my feet. That’s fantastic for me and my family, and everyone can see that smile on me!”

Ingeus delivers the Restart Scheme as the prime provider in London and Greater Manchester, and on behalf of Serco in the Central West Midlands region.
