The sky’s the limit for Shezan

From the very start of his career at Ingeus, Shezan knew he wanted to progress – to lead a team and inspire others. Having already done so in other sectors, joining Ingeus as a Restart Advisor in 2021 marked the beginning of a brand new leadership journey for the ambitious then-35-year-old.
True to form, Shezan quickly progressed through promotions to Team Leader and Business Manager, fitting in paternity leave along the way. He now oversees operations at Ingeus’ busy Tower Hamlets centre. For Shezan, leadership isn’t about titles, it’s about making a positive impact and empowering his team to transform the lives of the jobseekers they support.
Keen therefore to hone his leadership skills, Shezan eagerly completed Ingeus’ First Line Leadership programme in 2025, the first of four structured leadership courses available to Ingeus people managers.
“It really did help a lot,” says Shezan after attending the two-day workshop in Lambeth. “We focussed on communication styles and giving feedback, which really connected with me. I am very direct and action-orientated; the course helped me recognise my team’s strengths and learn how to delegate more effectively.
“The sessions were practical, with tips to apply in a variety of situations. It brought clarity and structure to what can be a very fast-paced and busy role.
“There were colleagues from across the Ingeus business divisions, not just employability, so it was good to meet new people and hear different experiences.
“Really importantly, we were able to express our own personalities, guided by the Ingeus values that the training is based on. I’ve learned that being realistic and true to yourself are good qualities to model; honesty, trust and transparency are my leadership watchwords. Being a leader isn’t always a comfortable experience but equally it’s incredibly satisfying when those around you achieve more than they thought capable.”
