Magnificent Maggie commended by Butler Trust

27 Mar. 2026
Ingeus Personal Wellbeing Advisor, Margaret Slyfield, has been recognised with a Butler Trust Commendation for her outstanding justice work, presented by HRH The Princess Royal.

Margaret, known affectionally as Magnificent Maggie, attended a reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh to mark the 41st annual Butler Trust Awards. Attended by Butler Trust patron, Princess Anne, the awards recognise exceptional individuals working within UK prisons, probation, and youth justice. From more than 400 UK-wide nominations, just 10 Awards and 20 Commendations were presented this year.

“It was an absolute honour to meet HRH The Princess Royal and to receive a Commendation on behalf of all those gentlemen who have turned their lives around. It’s the pinnacle of my career,” says Maggie.

That career has encompassed more than two decades working in the justice sector – the last five years with Ingeus. Aged 68 at the time, Maggie joined Ingeus after two weeks of retirement, determined to continue her life-changing work and pass on her decades of experience.

She is now part of the Ingeus Personal Wellbeing team in the Midlands, delivering Commissioned Rehabilitative Services to people in prisons and on licence in the community.  Maggie’s favourite work is in-person, in prisons, supporting men in HMP Hewell and HMP Winson Green. She also works extensively in communities across the West Midlands and Coventry, consistently going the extra mile to support men on probation to resettle and rehabilitate.

Maggie’s nomination to The Butler Trust was made by her manager, Service Delivery Lead, Jeanette Williamson. She describes Maggie as ‘inspirational, a very special person’. The award entry was endorsed by testimonials from countless colleagues and men on probation that Maggie has helped.

“The reaction from everyone has been amazing,” adds Maggie. “All the probation officers and Ingeus colleagues I work with have said it’s well deserved and my family are over the moon for me. The men I support say they’re lucky to have the best.

“I just do the best I can, that’s just me. I still have to pinch myself.”

Now aged 72 and at the pinnacle of her career, is Maggie considering re-retiring?
“Never, not an option,” she concludes.
