Breaking the habit to reduce reoffending

Dependency and Recovery services are part of the Ministry of Justice’s Commissioned Rehabilitative Services (CRS). Part of the probation system, they are commissioned and delivered at a local and regional level to provide flexible, responsive services to help break the cycle of reoffending in the North and West Yorkshire, Northumbria, Cleveland and Durham.

Ingeus’ Dependency and Recovery service aims to explore some of the issues encountered by people on probation, helping them to understand and manage their substance misuse. We offer a fully integrated, holistic service tailored to the individual needs of male service users, over the age of 18, with support from local community organisations and our partner, Humankind.

Our team helps service users make positive changes to transform their life – helping them to be happier, healthier, and more independent.

  • Recovery Navigators provide thorough assessment and action planning whilst our Recovery Guides deliver a close supportive experience to guide people through their recovery journey with Ingeus and any other agencies involved, e.g. treatment services.
  • Recovery Champions provide mentoring and wrap-around support, some of whom have lived experience.
  • Humankind provides specialist support and evidence-based substance misuse interventions.
  • Team Leaders coordinate our services and seek further local help and support where required.

Peer mentoring

Our peer mentoring scheme is central to all of our justice services. This scheme quickly establishes a strong rapport with people in prison or on probation, earning their trust and providing a true sense of empathy due to their own experiences of the justice system. This also allows opportunities to the Peer Mentors themselves and supports them on their own journey.
